DFI introduces the EC5 series, equipped with advanced features such as 12th Generation Intel Core Processors and M.2-powered 5G communication, aiming to revolutionise industrial automation. With a focus on performance, reliability, and adaptability, these systems are set to address the evolving needs of various sectors and drive innovations in industrial computing.

DFI Unveils Advanced Embedded Systems for Industrial Automation

Taipei, 26 June 2024 – DFI, a leading name in the embedded motherboard and industrial computer industry, has rolled out its latest embedded systems: the EC5 series. With models EC543-ADS, EC510-ADS, EC511-ADS, and EC500-ADS, the EC5 series aims to revolutionise industrial automation through advanced technology and robust performance metrics.

The introduction of these new models could significantly impact how businesses across various sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics, manage their operations. These systems are equipped with the 12th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors, ensuring powerful and reliable performance suitable for demanding industrial applications.

Market Trends and Technological Advancements

Emergen Research has projected that the global embedded systems market will surge to $169.4 billion by 2032. This growth is spurred by the rising integration of Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) devices and automation technologies in numerous sectors. Machine learning algorithms within industrial embedded systems aim to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime related to equipment malfunctions. Such systems promise compatibility and efficient performance across multiple joint-use applications.

Technical Specifications and Features

One of the distinguishing features of the EC5 series is its hybrid architecture, which optimally handles tasks in edge computing environments. Each unit supports up to 64GB of DDR4 SODIMM RAM, facilitating rapid data transmission and demanding industrial needs. The series provides versatile display options, supporting three independent displays, which are crucial for process monitoring, data visualisation, and essential information displays.

The inclusion of M.2-powered 5G communication in these models offers low latency, translating to speedier and more reliable connectivity, essential for modern industrial landscapes. The rugged design of these systems ensures stability and enduring power, even in the harshest of environments. Compliance with IEC 68-2-64 vibration testing and shock testing metrics further attests to their resilience.

Another notable aspect is the extensibility achieved through one PCIe x 16 slot (Gen 3) for graphics and three M.2 slots. Additionally, the EC510-ADS, EC511-ADS, and EC543-ADS are outfitted with four PoE ports. This feature greatly simplifies the deployment of IP cameras and data acquisition devices by streamlining connectivity.

Operational Factors

The fanless design of these systems contributes to their reliability, particularly in environments with stringent operational demands. A broad input voltage range from 9V to 36V enhances their adaptability to various power conditions. Furthermore, the systems can operate within a wide temperature range of -20°C to 70°C, depending on the model, making them suitable for diverse industrial settings.

Implications and Future Directions

With the launch of the EC5 series, DFI is strengthening its position in the industrial automation market by providing solutions that are not only technologically advanced but also flexible and robust. These systems are anticipated to meet the growing needs of industries looking to integrate advanced computing capabilities for improved operational efficiency.

The focus on enhanced connectivity, versatile display options, and rugged design suggests DFI’s commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by industries today. As automation continues to shape various sectors, the introduction of powerful embedded systems like the EC5 series will likely play a crucial role in driving further innovations.

The series appears geared towards offering a balance of performance, reliability, and adaptability, making it a noteworthy development in the field of industrial computing.
